Disney World Transportation Guide

How to Get Anywhere on Property — Pick where you're starting and where you're going. We'll show you every option, how long it takes, and which one's best.

First Bus vs. Driving

  • Take the bus if: You're staying at a Disney resort, no need to pay for parking, and relaxation is a priority
  • Drive/Uber if: You need flexibility between parks, plan multiple stops, or are visiting outside resort
  • Cost: Parking ~$15/day at parks, Uber $15-35/ride depending on distance
  • Pro tip: First bus leaves resort 45-60 min before park opening. Consider the wait vs. stress trade-off

Park Hopping Transportation

  • MK ↔ EPCOT: Monorail via TTC (~30 min) is fastest, or bus (~25 min) with more waits
  • EPCOT ↔ Hollywood Studios: Skyliner (~15 min, direct) is king, or boat (~20 min, scenic) for a walk
  • Any to Animal Kingdom: Bus only (~20-25 min). No shortcuts here
  • Strategy: Use Skyliner/Boat when available. They're faster and more reliable than buses during peak hours

Rope Drop Strategy

  • First buses: Leave resorts 45-60 min before park open. This gets you there 15-20 min after opening
  • Monorail: Runs from 6:30 AM in high season. Check your park's opening time
  • Skyliner: Usually opens 30 min before parks. Fastest way to rope drop if available
  • Backup plan: If buses are overwhelmed, Uber/Lyft can be faster during rope drop crush

End of Night Strategy

  • Last buses: Usually leave parks 30 min after closing, but popular parks run until 1-2 AM
  • Monorail: Last trains typically 1 hour after park close
  • Skyliner: Often closes earlier than buses. Check before relying on it after 11 PM
  • Missed the last bus? Uber/Lyft surge pricing kicks in. Budget $25-40 back to resort

Rainy Day Transportation

  • Best coverage: Monorail, Skyliner, and boats are fully enclosed
  • Partial cover: Bus stations have some shelter, but loading areas are open
  • Walking routes: EPCOT/HS boardwalk walks have some covered areas. MK monorail walk is exposed
  • Pro tip: Rain delays buses 5-10 minutes. Book Uber in rain vs. waiting for a delayed bus

Strollers & Accessibility

  • Buses: Accessible for wheelchair users and strollers, but can be tight during crowded times
  • Monorail: Fully accessible. Wide doors, minimal stairs or ramps
  • Skyliner: Stations have elevators. Cabins are spacious for strollers/wheelchairs
  • Boats: Variable accessibility. Some have ramps, others require steps. Ask crew if unsure
  • Walking routes: Well-paved and mostly flat. Beach Club → EPCOT is easiest walk

Uber/Lyft vs. Disney Transport

Uber/Lyft Cost: $15-40 per ride
Time: 10-20 min door-to-door
Flexibility: High
Best for: Avoiding crowds, late night
Disney Transport Cost: Free (included)
Time: 20-45 min with waits
Flexibility: Low
Best for: Budget-conscious, relaxed pace

Families staying resort: Bus is unbeatable on budget. Park hoppers during peak hours: Consider Uber to save 15-20 minutes and stress.
