Live, interactive stand-up comedy starring animated Monsters Inc. characters. Audience members text in jokes, get pulled onto screens, and become part of the show. Genuinely funny on a good night.
Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor opened at Magic Kingdom in 2007. The premise: in the Monsters Inc. universe, monsters discovered that laughter generates more energy than screams, so they've set up a stand-up comedy club. You're the audience. The monsters on screen are animated in real time by performers backstage, who can see and hear the audience and respond to them.
No height requirement โ any guest can ride. Children under 7 must be accompanied by someone 14 or older.
After a brief pre-show in the lobby (where you can text jokes from your phone), you're seated in a theater with three large screens. The hosts โ animated monsters voiced and animated live โ work the crowd, take audience volunteers, and respond to text-submitted jokes.
No two shows are the same. The comedians rotate, the jokes are timely, and the technology is invisible enough that most kids genuinely believe the monsters can see them. Adults who like improv or stand-up comedy often rate this as a sleeper hit.
Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor doesn't have Lightning Lane. The 400-seat theater means waits are usually under 15 minutes for the next show.
Average standby wait by season (observed over 2024-2025 data):
| Season | Morning | Midday | Evening |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low season | 5 min | 10 min | 5 min |
| Moderate | 10 min | 15 min | 10 min |
| High season | 15 min | 20 min | 15 min |
| Holiday peaks | 20 min | 25 min | 20 min |
Mid-afternoon. Show times are continuous throughout the day; there's no bad time.
The interactive element keeps kids engaged. Most school-age kids enjoy the live volunteers and the timely jokes.
Genuinely live, genuinely improvised. Performers vary in skill, but a good show is a real show.
15 minutes of seated air-conditioning.
Verbal humor, timing-based jokes. Most under-4 kids don't follow what's happening.
Text in a joke from the pre-show area. Look for the phone-number prompt in the lobby. Submit a 1-2 line joke. If they choose yours, they'll display your name on the screen.
Volunteer if asked. The hosts pull 1-2 audience volunteers per show. If they ask for one, raise your hand. The interaction is brief and friendly.
Sit centered. The three screens overlap; centered seats see all three. Side seats lose one of the screens at an angle.
Don't take the kid jokes seriously. Some shows ask audience members for their job. Kids' answers ('I'm seven') get gentle laughs. Adults who say 'plumber' will get the harder ribbing.
